Furch-Diaoulek is the union between a
vocabulary manager and a
helper to read texts written in one of
the languages imperfectly known to you and that you try
to learn.
Diaoulek is your vocabulary manager,
it will allow you to make your every day learning in
an optimal fashion. A word, which is to be learned,
will be proposed to you 5 times every day, then 3 times
every other day, then twice 4 days apart, then once after
8 days and finally it will be recalled after one month of
delay. You can adapt these numerical values to the capabilities
of your memory. Every word which is imperfectly known
can be put again at the beginning of the cycle. The daily
lesson is made of a set of words, each one at its own stage
in the cycle. These words can come from lessons written by
yourself or downloaded from the project's site. They can
also be generated by Diaoulek from the
bilingual dictionaries of
the FreeDict project. The software can also
use the Google's vocal synthesis Svox Pico
for 5 Western-European languages. This is absolutly necessary
for a language like English whose pronunciation may be
rather loosely related to the spelling.
Furch is your reading help for the texts
written in the language that you are learning. It will not
attempt to make any translation, its only purpose is to avoid
you the chore of turning the pages of a dictionary. Furch
will select for you the articles of its data-base which it
deems like correlated to the clicked word in the displayed
text. You can then choose some of these articles and add them
to your Diaoulek daily lesson. Many plain, uncoded texts
can be found on the web and be downloaded. You can also
capture with your mouse texts displayed on your screen by
your web brooser. This is the case, for example, for the
articles of Wikipedia in Breton.
Formerly, Furch started as an independant project, its
integration into Diaoulek has begun in March 2016. That will
allow Furch to use all the ressources of Diaoulek but the
integration is not much advanced. At present time, only the
application for Breton translated into French has begun.
Furch-Diaoulek is written in C and it is
realeased under a Gnu/GPL licence .
A documentation in English exists for the software
and you can download the last stable version on
that page.
You can also see some screen captures
